Associate Lecturer (Tourism and Hospitality)

Hours: Variable Hours

Hourly pay: £26.67-£31.62 

Contract: Fixed Term for 6 months (subject to review)

Location: Canary Wharf, London

ABOUT US 

The University of Sunderland in London, based at Canary Wharf, boasts a vibrant and diverse community of staff and students. We consider ourselves as an innovative satellite campus and are constantly evolving and have exciting plans for 2025 and beyond! We are currently piloting a four-day working week which allows our colleagues to work 32 hours over 4 days week with no reduction in pay. The pilot is part of our ongoing efforts to create a positive and inclusive workplace that promotes work-life balance and allows our colleagues to thrive professionally and personally whilst maintaining our commitment to delivering high-quality service to all our students. In addition, in early 2025 we will be moving to a new, modern campus building adjacent to our current location offering a bright and spacious learning and working environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a student focused Associate Lecturer to teach, assess and support learning of Postgraduate/Undergraduate students in the field of Tourism and Hospitality. In addition, there are opportunities to supervise students’ research projects.

We would like to hear from experts who can provide lectures, seminars and research supervisions.  

The main modules include:

  • Research Methods for the Service Sector (SPSS knowledge is essential)
  • International Hospitality Management
  • Marketing for the Service Sector
  • Introduction to financial operations in hospitality (to be introduced on the new programme)
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Hospitality and Tourism (to be introduced on the new programme

You need to have previous experience of working in Higher Education as a Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality as well as a Master's Degree or equivalent professional qualifications in this subject area. The ability to relate your teaching to a practical setting via exceptional communication and presentation skills is required. In addition, you will have significant experience of online and face to face teaching within the Higher Education Sector and experience of using apps / platforms alongside practical or classroom-based learning.

 Previous experience of supervising students’ research projects and a teaching qualification/HEA fellowship would be advantageous.
