The Social Studies team at Sunderland seek to welcome a new academic team member from January 2020. We are a progressive and professional team with an excellent reputation for providing high quality teaching and learning and student support.


Successful applicants will contribute to the delivery of our Health and Social Care undergraduate programme at the University of Sunderland, and possibly other undergraduate and postgraduate provision within our subject area if appropriate. We particularly seek applications from candidates who can contribute to the teaching of the following: mental health, leadership and management in health and social care settings, inequalities in health (socio-economic, disability, gender, age, ethnicity), social welfare/ heath and social care policy. Other specialisms will also be considered. You will contribute to the promotion of teaching, research and reach-out activities across the Faculty of Education and Society and particularly the School of Social Sciences.

You will work within our Social Studies team across a range of modules, contribute to the wider developments of your specialist area/s and engage in student support. Contributing to subject teaching and curriculum development of designated modules and programmes, you will also be able to engage in/with to the established and developing research culture within the team and the wider School/Faculty.


You will be qualified to doctoral level and will have a clear research plan which aligns with the interests of the Faculty, the school and the team.

A teaching qualification and/ or HEA fellowship and practice experience are also desirable.
