Your next opportunity

This opportunity gives you the chance to start your technical career in our state‑of‑the‑art Science Complex, working closely with an experienced technical team.

Over 24 months, you’ll gain hands‑on experience preparing labs, supporting classes and research, learning equipment operation, and maintaining safe, efficient laboratory spaces. You’ll develop practical skills in analytical and organic chemistry while contributing directly to student learning.

You’ll receive structured training, mentoring, and regular development reviews, preparing you to progress into a Grade C Chemistry Laboratory Technician role. It’s an excellent opportunity to build confidence, gain real experience, and make a meaningful impact within a supportive team.

This role is likely to start in August/September 2026.

Is this you?

You enjoy practical, hands‑on work and have a genuine interest in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and laboratory operations. You may be early in your technical career, but you’re keen to learn and develop your skills.

You’re comfortable following procedures, working safely, and supporting others in a busy teaching environment. You have a developing understanding of health and safety principles, including COSHH and risk assessments.

You communicate well, work positively with colleagues and students, and take pride in keeping laboratory spaces organised and ready for use. Most importantly, you’re enthusiastic, reliable, and ready to grow your technical knowledge through structured training and guidance.

Why join us?

At Sunderland University, we’re more than a place of learning, we’re a welcoming community that values inclusivity, collaboration, and well-being. We don’t just offer jobs, we offer careers that come with support, flexibility, and plenty of perks:
