This is an excellent opportunity for (senior) research fellow position in Faculty of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing to work on projects related to the new centre of excellence for sustainable advanced manufacturing (CESAM). CESAM is a translational hub for technology transfer to Nissan Manufacturing and its supply chain in collaboration with University of Sunderland.

The position requires an experienced researcher (Postdoctoral experience) with capability of independent research and very good understanding of the manufacturing environment and its need for rapid and high quality technology transfer. You will have demonstrated research track record in either automation/robotics in manufacturing or joining/assembly processes. The sub-categories for each area are as follows:

A) Automation/Robotics in manufacturing
• Embedding intelligence in manufacturing systems
• Sensors, control and Data analytics related to Industry 4.0
• Robotics in manufacturing automation (Programming skills in automation scripting)


B) Joining and assembly processes

• Ultrasonic and friction stir welding
• Machining
• Adhesive bonding

It is expected that you will be able to plan, design and perform research on multiple projects as it is demanded by the centre. You will also be able to identify appropriate funding sources and contribute to proposal writing for funding applications. A good appreciation of the automotive industry and its supply chain in terms of latest state of art technologies is also required. Experience in supervision and management of research students in the relevant area is highly desirable.
