The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) aims to support schools in providing a sustained response to the coronavirus pandemic and to provide a longer-term contribution to closing the attainment gap.

Through the NTP Tuition Partners pillar, state-funded primary and secondary schools in England will be able to access high-quality subsidised tutoring from an approved list of tutoring providers.

The focus of NTP Tuition Partners is on supporting disadvantaged pupils, including those eligible for Pupil Premium funding.

The University of Sunderland is leading the NTP in the North East in collaboration with regional partners from Durham University, Newcastle University, Northumbria University and Teesside University.  We intend to reach 2500 pupils across the region across the course of the academic year 2020-21 and are seeking high quality graduates to train as tutors in the following areas:

  • English (KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4)
  • Mathematics (KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4)
  • Sciences (KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4)
  • Humanities (KS3 and KS4)
  • MfL (KS3 and KS4)

Trainee tutors will be fully trained prior to being added to the Tutor Bank for regional schools.

Trainee tutors invited to training must be committed to completing the training; willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check (which we will provide where necessary), and complete the certified Safeguarding Training we provide to be added to the Tutor Bank for schools.  The Prohibition list for teaching will also be checked for each individual.

Tutors added to the Tutor Bank must be willing for their details to be shared with schools seeking tutor provision.  Tutors from the Tutor Bank who are matched with schools will be paid £15 per hour and will be expected to tutor pupils in groups of three either in school or online.   Please note that tutors will receive high quality training; DBS checks and certificated Safeguarding Training which is free at the point of contact. Training does not guarantee work in schools.
