At the University of Sunderland, we strive to provide a positive candidate experience throughout our recruitment process.
Finding Vacancies
Our current vacancies are listed on our website, where you can search by role type (e.g., academic), campus location, or full-time/part-time positions. If you wish to view all available roles, simply select the option to view all current vacancies.
How to Apply
To apply for a post, click the "Apply Online" button within the job advert, where you will be asked to register and create an account on the site. If you already have an account, simply log in. Ensure you use an active email address, as this will be our primary way of communicating with you regarding your application.
Application requirements may vary depending on the role and are typically advertised for 2-4 weeks based on the position and seniority.
If you require the application form in an alternative format (e.g., large print, audio), please contact:
- Sunderland Campus HR Team: 0191 5152055
- London Campus HR Team: 0207 5317333
All applications must be submitted online by the closing date.
After Closing Date
The selection panel will assess all applications based on the Role Profile, which includes the job description and essential/desirable criteria required for the role.
Shortlisting and Interviews
We aim to update candidates within one week of the vacancy closing, and shortlisted candidates will receive at least one week’s notice before interviews to allow ample time to prepare. We appreciate there may often be delays in the process, but our dedicated in-house recruitment team is available to assist with any queries via talent.acquisition@sunderland.ac.uk
Applying From Overseas
At the University of Sunderland, we take pride in being a truly international institution, with a rich history of welcoming students and staff across the globe. No matter where you're from, you’ll feel right at home with us.
The University must ensure that all employees have the legal right to live and work in the UK. If offered employment, your start date will depend on verifying your eligibility to work in the UK.
If you do not currently have the right to work in the UK, you may still apply for certain positions. Our job adverts will indicate if we can sponsor overseas candidates. The main route for gaining work authorization is through the points-based system, though other options may be available based on family or ancestral connections. If offered a position, you will need a Certificate of Sponsorship for a Skilled Worker visa. We advise checking the Home Office visa guidelines to confirm your eligibility.
All job applications are evaluated based on skills and experience, without discrimination based on national origin. However, employment offers are conditional upon obtaining the necessary work permission, and you cannot start work until this permission is confirmed.
If you are offered a job at the University as a non-settled worker and are being sponsored, you will need to apply for a visa. The University will apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship for you as the first part of the visa application process. Information on visa types, costs and processes are available on the UK government website.
