The University of Sunderland is a truly life-changing university. We've been providing higher education in the city since 1901, and we're proud to be an innovative, accessible and inspirational university. We're a global institution offering life-changing opportunities to thousands of students across the world, in our partner colleges and in our four main sites at Sunderland, London and Hong Kong. In Sunderland we have our City Campus, which is at the centre of our modern city, and the University’s impressive riverside campus is only a mile away. Estates and Facilities provide a childcare service to staff, students and the local community.

We are offering a rare opportunity for the right person to join an established team and childcare service. This role will work in partnership with parents and Childcare Officers to provide high-quality childcare and education to children aged from birth. In addition, a key focus of the role will be to support the childcare cook in providing a variety of meals for the children within the nursery.

We are looking for someone who is able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of child development and the Early year’s foundation stage curriculum.
Have an understanding of role and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and SEND.
Be motivated and passionate about working within early years and childcare.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement (26 days per year, plus all bank holidays and Christmas closure) you will join an inclusive and supportive culture based across two campuses.
We offer a large range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, health cash plan, discounts on bus and rail fare as well as car hire.
For those candidates with family, our maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and adoption policies offer enhanced pay.
Our on-site gym within City Space, gives our staff the opportunity to benefit from discounted rates and use of the latest equipment and classes.
Finally, we also have an amazing selection of staff networks which support staff in various areas; LGBTQ+, Family, Women, Disability, BAME, Carers and more.  They are chaired and facilitated by staff and are both a supportive mechanism and platform for change within the University.  The University recently implemented the Family network proposal for additional paid leave for parents of Neonatal/Premature babies.

For any informal enquiries please e-mail: childcare@sunderland.ac.uk

Please note interviews will be held on Wednesday 29th March.
