Associate Lecturer (Tourism and Hospitality)

Hours: Variable Hours

Hourly Rate for Category 1 Work : £26.67-£31.62

Contract: Fixed Term for 6 months (subject to review)

ABOUT US 

The University of Sunderland in London, based at Canary Wharf, boasts a vibrant and diverse community of staff and students. We consider ourselves as an innovative satellite campus and are constantly evolving and have exciting plans for 2025 and beyond!

We are currently piloting a four-day working week which allows our colleagues to work 32 hours over 4 days week with no reduction in pay. The pilot is part of our ongoing efforts to create a positive and inclusive workplace that promotes work-life balance and allows our colleagues to thrive professionally and personally whilst maintaining our commitment to delivering high-quality service to all our students.

In addition, we have moved to a modern campus building adjacent to our current location offering a bright and spacious learning and working environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a student focused Associate Lecture to teach, assess and support learning of Postgraduate/Undergraduate students in the field of Tourism Hospitality and Events. In addition, there are opportunities to supervise students’ research projects.

We would like to hear from experts who can provide lectures, seminars and research supervisions.  

The main modules include-

  • International Hospitality Management
  • Gastronomy
  • Digital Technology in the Visitor Economy
  • Leadership and Management for the Service Sector
  • Work-Based Learning
  • Exploring MICE: Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions

 

You need to have previous experience of working in Higher Education as a Lecturer in Tourism Hospitality and Events as well as a Master's Degree or equivalent professional qualifications in these subject areas.  The ability to relate your teaching to a practical setting via exceptional communication and presentation skills is required. In addition, you will have significant experience of online and face to face teaching within the Higher Education Sector and experience of using apps / platforms alongside practical or classroom-based learning.

 Previous experience of supervising students’ research projects and a teaching qualification/HEA fellowship would be advantageous.

To provide good quality of teaching and learning to our students, we are looking for someone who available for at least two days a week to attend face to face teaching on campus.
