Are you looking to make a difference in young people’s lives? Apply to be a Student Mentor! Being a Student Mentor can help increase young people’s participation in higher education, and can also help you get ahead as a graduate and make your university experience even more life changing.

We are recruiting for Student Mentors to work between November 2019 and November 2020, therefore you must be a current student for the academic year 2019/20. As this contract is for a year, students due to graduate in December 2019 are not eligible to apply.

Being a Student Mentor gives current students a wealth of opportunities to gain experience, develop invaluable skills, represent the University and the North East Collaborative Outreach Programme, meet new people and earn a little money too. It’s a great way to get involved with life on campus beyond lectures and help you to make the most of your university experience.

As a Student Mentor you will be a casual worker for the University, working as part of a large team and will gain access to a host of benefits, including excellent training.

Students who are successful in joining the Student Mentor team will benefit from:

  • Paid casual work assignments
  • Unpaid voluntary opportunities
  • Full training
  • Continuous Professional Development training
  • Reference to reflect the work carried out throughout the year
  • Opportunity to represent the university and the North East Collaborative Outreach Programme at local and national events
  • Uniform (t-shirt and zipped hooded sweatshirt)

You must be available for at least 5 hours per week, and be able to attend a compulsory training session on 7th – 8th December 2019. An Assessment Centre will take pace for shortlisted applicants 11th and 12 November 2019.

To apply for the role, please complete the application form and submit to  student.mentor@sunderland.ac.uk before 12 noon on Friday 25th October.
