NATIONAL LIVING WAGE APPLIES WITH EFFECT FROM SEPTEMBER 2020

     Become a PASS Leader

PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a scheme in which second year students facilitate study sessions for first year students to help them access course material and become effective independent learners. The scheme is internationally established and is run in thousands of Universities across 29 countries.

We are looking for students to be part of the new PASS scheme here at the University of Sunderland. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to help us establish and grow a successful PASS scheme to benefit first year students. You will gain a range of transferable skills and experience, enhance your subject knowledge and help make you stand out to potential employers.

As a PASS leader you will be trained to plan and resource weekly hour-long PASS sessions, as well as attending regular debriefs with a PASS supervisor to evaluate the sessions and address any queries. You will also be expected to liaise with an academic co-ordinator to promote the scheme and feedback about the sessions. This is a paid role, in line with National Living Wage; you are expected to be available for 2.5 hours per week (1 hour planning time, 1 hour for the session and 30 minutes to attend debrief). You will also need to be available for two days of paid training from the beginning of September, as well as occasional additional duties as required throughout the year (such as supplementary training, freshers’ induction week etc.).

We are looking for students who are:

  • Trustworthy

  • Enthusiastic about their course

  • Confident in representing the course and the experiences you have had as a first year

  • Friendly and approachable

  • Committed to establishing, developing and improving the scheme to ensure it is a success

Benefits of becoming a PASS leader:

  • Develop employability skills including time management, presentation, leadership, communication and organisational skills

  • Increased confidence and speaking skills

  • Valuable experience to add to your CV, plus a written reference from the Vice Chancellor

  • Improved understanding and revision of course content

  • Experience to put towards a SuPA award

  • PASS-branded goods (Hoodies/Bags)
