The School of Education has successfully grown and expanded our Teacher Training both Nationally and Internationally.

Our Initial Teacher Training ( ITT) recruitment for Primary and Secondary has increased from 220 in 2015 to 750 in 2020.

This success has been replicated internationally within  our IDL PGCE Education with recruitment increasing from  410 in 2015  to 624 2020/21, and our PGCE Early Years Teaching increasing from 29 in 2015 to 65, and our SCITT provision growing 67 to 338 in 2020.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Secondary Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provision in the development and training of prospective teachers and the promotion of teaching and learning, research and reach-out activities across the faculty, in the vibrant School of Education at the University of Sunderland. The ITT provision in the School is Ofsted rated Good.

The Faculty has ambitious plans for continuing the growth trajectory of teacher training and the year- on- year increase in student numbers exemplifies that this ambition is being realised.
Our provision for Secondary Initial Teacher Training is a growing provision and includes, the undergraduate, BSc (Hons) STEM Education (Suite) subjects; Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics with maths, Design Technology and BSc Physical Education programmes alongside PGCE training for English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Religious Education, Geography, Business Education, History, PGCE School Direct Secondary, PGCE Secondary Education Apprenticeship and our new PGCE Modern Foreign Languages.

As a Senior Lecturer in Secondary History ITT you will work within the ITT Team across the range of provision including undergraduate programmes, PGCE and PGCE School Direct, contribute to the wider developments in ITT provision and engage in Placement Supervision and Student Support. You will lead and contribute to History subject teaching and curriculum development of designated modules and programmes. You will be qualified to Masters Level, with Qualified Teacher Status, be digitally literate with proven expertise in your subject in the Secondary phase.
