Facilities Support Services offer a high quality, modern and flexible frontline service to the University community and we are looking for someone to join us as a General Support Assistant working 25 hours per week.

The role holder will work 5 days over 7 across both campuses in Sunderland carrying out both indoor and outdoor tasks throughout the year.

Estates and Facilities provide a 24/7 service to the University therefore whilst the role holder's times of work will be fixed, a level of flexibility is required by all staff within the team.

The role of General Support Assistant includes, but is not restricted to:

  • Portering duties
  • Transportation and delivery of goods, materials and equipment therefore a full clean driving license is an essential requirement as part of this role.
  • Furniture removal and transportation
  • Cleansing of internal and external areas
  • Operation of appropriate service related machinery and driving of University vehicles.
  • Completion of customer requests
  • Waste transportation/recycling/disposal
  • Customer enquiries/assistance
  • Room set ups
  • Report faults in equipment and premises.

The role can be physically demanding as it includes tasks such as lifting items of furniture and working outside in inclement weather.

Whilst the role holder will report directly to the Facilities Support Team Leader from whom daily operational direction and procedural policy will be given, applicants should be able to demonstrate self motivation and the ability to prioritise tasks when appropriate.

Please note the successful candidate will require a DBS check prior to starting in the role.
