With a global footprint spanning Sunderland, London, Hong Kong, and partnerships in 15 countries, the University of Sunderland is a beacon of transformation for 27,500 students. We take immense pride in our recognition as a top 50 UK university (as per the Guardian University Guide 2023). Our commitment to excellence extends to our top-notch facilities, inclusive culture, and the dynamic city we call home.

Now, we invite you to step into the spotlight as our Deputy Academic Registrar, a role that's brimming with potential!

About the Role

Join our expanding Registry as a pivotal part of our Registry Executive team. Collaborate with an existing Deputy Academic Registrar and the Academic Registrar to drive impactful change across the institution. This isn't just a job; it's an opportunity to lead and innovate.

Your responsibilities are diverse and far-reaching. You'll manage the Heads of Academic Quality and Student Casework, leading their operational excellence. But it doesn't stop there – you'll also spearhead strategic initiatives, taking the helm on transformative projects and business process reviews. As a member of the Registry Executive, you'll play a central role in service planning, metrics, reporting, and budget-setting. You'll partner with the other Deputy to oversee cross-service functions, from staff development to regulatory advice.

Your influence won't be limited to the Registry; you'll collaborate with academic leaders, Deans, Heads of Schools, and stakeholders, providing top-tier advice and support. Building strong relationships will be essential as you lead and participate in institution-wide projects driving strategic change.

About You

We're searching for a true leader, someone who inspires and guides their teams while offering unwavering support. Your leadership skills are vital, but we also value your commitment to continuous growth.

You'll bring substantial knowledge and experience of Registry functions and the higher education regulatory landscape. Leading teams in Registry or similar university functions is your forte, and you may even have experience in Student Casework or Quality. Outstanding candidates with different backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. Confidence, capability, and resilience are your trademarks, and you're dedicated to propelling productive change. If you're passionate about making a difference and leading a dynamic team toward success, we want to hear from you!

What We Offer

At the University of Sunderland, we're not just about academic excellence; we're a community that embraces inclusivity and support. Join us, and you'll receive a comprehensive benefits package:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 36 days, with additional closure days at Christmas and Bank Holidays.
  • Access to our Workplace Pension Scheme for your financial security.
  • The My Lifestyle Benefits Platform for exclusive discounts.
  • Save on private medical insurance, health cash plans, and receive financial well-being guidance.
  • An on-site nursery for childcare.
  • Discounted membership at CitySpace Fitness for an active lifestyle.
  • Free campus bus travel, staff networks, on-site events, and more.
