The University also operates from a very successful campus in London, and a Hong Kong campus acquired in 2016.

Our ambition is to be recognised as a high-quality, modern university that is an exemplar in the creation of knowledge, skills and learning relevant to the 21st Century.

The University is launching its Strategic Plan which sets out how the institution will continue to build on its position of strength.  The Finance team is fundamental to this and to help deliver on these objectives, the University is seeking to appoint a Finance Business Partnering Manager to work in partnership with academic deans and service directors in delivery of excellence. The business partnering team fulfils a key role in contributing to the provision of financial and wider business advice during a period of significant change, ongoing improvement, and growth.

As a FBP Manager you will provide Finance Business Partnering services to one or more faculties and services.  For these faculties and services, you will lead on all financial and resourcing issues, both operational and strategic, including liaison with other service providers (e.g. Financial Management, Planning, HR, ITS, technical Staff) to enable insightful and informed planning and decision-making. You will also act as a finance voice in relevant meetings, both proactively and as requested by faculty and service customers. Key elements of the role include supporting and influencing partners to agree and deliver against financial plans and institutional priorities through leading on:

-       Budget setting, monitoring and action planning

-       Forecast preparation

-       Routine and ad hoc reporting

-       Business plan and proposal development

-       Presentation of management information to a variety of audiences with a decision-making  focus

As the successful candidate you will need to have experience of working as a business partner supporting management level non-finance department stakeholders, and delivering added value, within a complex and changing environment. Experience of leading a team of professional and technical staff, providing them with clear direction and guidance is necessary. Excellent people skills and the ability to manage relationships are essential to succeed within the role since developing an understanding of the operational and financial requirements of partners is key. Additionally, experience of moving difficult agendas forward to the point of completion in a constructive manner and to challenge the status quo and / or negotiate to achieve continuous improvement is required.

You will also have experience of leading the provision of information and advice to influence strategic decision-making on financial and other resourcing issues, along with experience of providing commercially focused advice.

You will hold a good first degree or have equivalent experience, and have evidence of undertaking leadership development. Being a CCAB qualified accountant is desirable, but we are more interested in your ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of accounting information, and your ability to apply this understanding to provide effective, insightful and forwards looking advice which considers all resource implications, not just income and expenditure.
