The Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing brings together a variety of disciplines and educational programmes, with a new vision and redefined strategic ambitions designed to take advantage of the ever-changing higher education landscape. Extensive and ongoing refurbishment of the Sciences Complex has seen significant investment in facilities such as biological science/pharmaceutics laboratories, and the ‘Living Lab’, designed to mimic real world environments such as a hospital ward and point of care facility, providing a superb learning environment for students and a setting for enhanced engagement with NHS and industrial partners.

The Faculty has successfully engaged with Health Education England’s Modernising Scientific Careers agenda and is the sole regional provider of undergraduate Healthcare Science programmes in Life Sciences and Physiological Sciences (Cardiac Physiology and Audiology), in addition to established programmes in Biomedical Science and Physiological Sciences.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development and delivery of biomedical science education. You will join a forward-looking academic team and contribute to the enhancement of our programmes and capacity for applied research by engaging with professional practice or research activity as appropriate.  To assist us further in the development of our vision for providing leading bioscience and healthcare science education, we are looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry.

You will have experience of developing teaching and learning activities in biochemistry and clinical biochemistry, and you will be expected to contribute to their delivery across the range of provision within the Faculty. You will have the opportunity to pursue your own research interests and a record of peer reviewed publication or equivalent record of contribution to the development of clinical practice is essential, as well as experience of supervision of undergraduate and/or postgraduate research projects.
To be considered for this post you must have a BSc in Biochemistry, Biomedical Science or related discipline as well as a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification/recognition. You are expected to hold, or will be supported to work towards, a HEA recognised teaching qualification.  Experience of using technology in undergraduate teaching and learning, distance learning in biomedical science education or of working in partnership with a Higher Education Institution and the NHS or industry are all desirable for this role.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Dr Jane Armstrong, Principal Lecturer (Team Leader), on 0191 515 2970 or email
